MONDAY, APRIL 20, 1987 GOOD MORNING LADIES AND GENTLEMEN: IT IS GOOD TO BE WITH YOU ON THE OCCASION OF THE SECOND ANNUAL BREAKFAST DIALOGUE WITH CONSUMER AFFAIRS AND COMMUNITY LEADERS. THIS IS THE SECOND YEAR DISTRICT GOVERNMENT THROUGH THE DEPARTMENT OF CONSUMER AND REGULATORY AFFAIRS HAS HAD SUCH AN EVENT. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT WE MAINTAIN AN OPEN EXCHANGE OF IDEAS, ISSUES AND CONCERNS WITH ORGANIZATIONS AND INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE ADVOCATES FOR CONSUMER RIGHTS. IT HELPS TO KEEP BUSINESSES AND SERVICES STRAIGHT AND IN TURN HELPS CITIZENS TO GET THE VERY BEST. ALL OF US EXPECT TO GET THE BEST AND THAT IS WHY I CONSOLIDATED CONSUMER PROTECTION AND REGULATORY FUNCTIONS. BY DOING SO, DISTRICT GOVERNMENT HAS A MORE COMPREHENSIVE SYSTEM FOR FOLLOW THROUGH WHEN THERE ARE VIOLATIONS OF DISTRICT CODES AND CONSUMER RIGHTS. WHILE IT IS GOOD TO HIGHLIGHT CONSUMERS APRIL 19th TO THE 25th, I WANT EACH OF YOU TO KNOW THAT DCRA HIGHLIGHTS CONSUMERS 52 WEEKS OF THE YEAR. CONSUMER PROTECTION AND EDUCATION IS A VERY IMPORTANT PART OF OUR OFFICIAL AND PROGRAMMATIC MANDATE. FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS YEAR, WE ARE HONORING AN INDIVIDUAL
