JOINING THE D.C. TEAM Briefing Paper October 3, 1986 PROGRAM OVERVIEW There will be approximately 120 participants representing 18 city departments at this regularly-scheduled session of "Joining the D.C. Team." A copy of the agenda for this session is attached. The majority of the participants will be from the Department of Corrections, the Department of Human Services, the Department of Public Works, and the Fire Department. MAYOR'S WELCOME (9:50 - 10:20 a.m.) The Mayor's Welcome is the highlight of this program. Participants respond enthusiastically to the Mayor's informal remarks and the opportunity to take a tour of his office after his welcome. The following talking points are suggested for this session: о Welcome all new employees to the D.C. Team emphasizing that everyone plays a vital role on the D.C. Team. Compare the D.C. Team to the Washington Redskins where everyone — blockers and tacklers as well as star running backs — work together to ensure that the team will be successful. о Stress the importance of doing the job well no matter what your job is today. Your opportunity to advance to another position that you might like better depends on doing this job well everyday. Promotions come from hard work. о Discuss the importance of honesty and integrity among all District employees referring to the new District of Columbia Government Integrity Standards. о Discuss the need and rationale of the residency requirement. о Emphasize the importance of maintaining a positive public image by being courteous to the public as well as -to each other. о Ask the employees if they have any questions. о Mention that the employees will have an opportunity to 1 tour the Mayor's Office before they leave today.
